T.S. Eliot, the famed poet, once likened cats to creatures that a household depends on, the there is some truth behind his words. Eliot described felines as a being that all households are dependent on, and that's true. A cat that is healthy and well mannered can be a great addition to any home. Sometimes, cats are very difficult to live with. Here are some tips on how you and your pet can better co-exist.
Older cats will appreciate a heated bed; you can use a heated tile to create one! Just heat a one-foot square terra cotta tile in your oven at about 200 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Place it in an older towel and place it underneath of the feline's bed. If necessary, you can change out the tile after a few hours to provide continued warmth.
Spay your female cat. Even if your cat is an indoor cat, if she escapes while she is in heat you might end up with a lot of kittens on your hands. Spaying the feline is really the optimal way of dealing with this.
Make sure your cat has a collar and tag if outside. Cats can range far from your home and the tag will help them find their way home. Have your phone number engraved on the tag.
Electrical Cords
Spray bitter apple on electrical cords to keep cats away from them. Cords should be covered, especially if your cat tends to chew on them. You can bundle loose cords together and place them inside paper towel rolls. If you have electrical cords laying out that are not being used, put them away as cats can play with them and then move on to live electrical cords.
Owning a cat can be difficult, but it can also be really rewarding. Whether your cat is a lazy ball of fur or an active ball of hair, it needs proper care. Before long, you'll be seeing positive changes in your cats.
